Whilst still relatively new to the world of beagles (about 10 years), I have been around dogs and dog shows my whole life, with a relative being a registered breeder for 25+ years. I remember getting up in what seemed to be the wee hours of the morning when I was much younger, but always worth it to go to a show!
I purchased my first beagle in April, 2001 through the Beagle Club Of Victoria. My first(born) beagle, Maddy was (Corawonga Bailey Heart). Maddy went to a few shows as a Minor but she wasn't really show material, so instead I took up Obedience and Agility. In our first year at Keilor Obedience Dog Training Centre, Maddy took me to Best Female Handler 2002! What a thrill, especially with a beagle.
When I got Maddy, I immersed myself in all things 'beagley', and found a pet beagle email list to which I joined. This is where I met the breeder of my second Beagle, Tyson. After getting to know Suzanne on the list, and realising that Maddy needed a friend, Suzanne agreed to sell me pick male puppy from the litter. As it turned out, he was the only male in the litter... Ok... well if you want to be technical he was the only pup IN the litter, much to our initial dismay. However, it proved to be a fitting name, as he was now officially known as Brynler Only The Lonely!
With fingers crossed, I was hoping that I would be able to show Tyson so off to shows we went, garnishing some very nice ribbons, winning all class in groups along the way. Then,up in Albury in October 2004 Tyson gained his final points (with a Runner Up to Best In Group) to become Australian Champion Brynler Only The Lonely - the first Champion for Brynler Beagles, but only by 24 hours! His full sister from the repeat mating, became Australian Champion Brynler Ruby Tuesday the very next day. Two champions in two days... not bad at all.
(Tuesday has since gone on to win BISS at the Beagle Club of Victoria 2005, under UK Beagle Specialist Mrs B Roderick, with 100+ entries)
In June 2006, Suzanne and myself travelled to the USA to see the 2006 Beagle National. What a wonderful time we had, meeting lots of wonderful Beagle people we had only spoken to by email. Some for many, many years!! It was the greatest trip, and it surpassed ALL of our expectations. We never wanted to leave! To date, it was the best holiday of my life.
Now, in September 2006, I have a new girl on the scene, Australian Champion Jansline Cosmopolitan - Georgia (or Georgia Brown when she's naughty).
**UPDATE** Georgia titled at barely 15 months, and we feel that the best is yet to come from this girl. With her sassy show attitude, sound construction, soft expression and true movement, you just can't help but want to show her off! I feel very honored to own this bitch, and delighted that she will be the foundation of Beaglyn Beagles... what a start!
** UPDATE ** Maddy has now gained her C.C.D. (Community Companion Dog) title, and can now be called Corawonga Bailey Heart CCD. Hopefully we can have the same success in the Novice ring.
2009 saw the arrival of my first Beaglyn litter - the "One" litter.
2011 has seen the arrival of my second litter - the "Star" litter. Look out for these pups in the ring soon!
I would like to thank Suzanne Parkinson (Brynler Beagles) and Sue Atkinson and Steve Waack (Jansline Kennels), for entrusting me with their beagles, and better mentors in beagles and life, one could not ask for!
